Slough Jets v Lee Valley Lions
Slough Jets started well, having given the starting slot to Rob Warrington.
Ashley West recorded the first goal at 07.11, when he intercepted a pass in Lee Valley's defensive zone and his quick shot caught netminder James Andrew by surprise. But that proved to be the highlight of the first period as two quick replies, from captain Nick Alley netted a one on one and James Hepburn took full advantage of a Jets defensive error to put the visitors in the driving seat. The two referees were also being rather too fussy with their whistles which prevented the period from flowing.
The second period started badly for the Slough. Simon Geldart (unassisted and Mathew Hepburn (on a delayed penalty call) added two more in the space of 25 seconds to leave the home side trailing 1-4 and Chris Douglas took over from the below par Warrington. This change gave the Jets a boost, with Kirk Evans pulling one back (at 28:47) and then a surperb solo skate and finish from Luke Martin-Digby on a powerplay, got the team back to within a goal, prompting Lions 'time-out'.
Ship steadied, the remainder of the game was pretty neutral. Douglas was beaten just the once, facing forty-four shots, on a Lions powerplay as Chris Hocquigny served a slashing minor.
After the previous weeks efforts against Haringey, this really a game that could have been won and the last match in the rink before re-furbishment, would have been fitting too! But is was not to be. Douglas was outstanding man of the match..... again
